QUESTION #5

How should I determine which employees to include in a random testing program?

Some companies include all employees in their random testing program. Other employers may limit random testing to those employees who occupy positions which require the performance of duties which, if performed under an impairment caused by drug abuse, could result in injury or death to the employee or others, or property damage. In other cases, employers are required by Federal regulations to include incumbents of certain positions in a random testing program, such as drivers who may be covered by Department of Transportation regulations.
